Animal tracking

The Ethotrack detection module has several algorithms in order to allow a good detection of the animal whatever the conditions of the experiment. Automatic mode (default mode) does not require any adjustment and gives good results in most cases. If the detection conditions are more difficult (low contrast between the animal and the background of the image, variation in brightness, etc.) and if the automatic mode does not provide a sufficient detection rate, it is possible to choose a manual mode in order to find the best settings adapted to the situation.

By default Ethotrack detects the position of the animal's center of gravity. All measurements of distances, speeds, etc., are calculated from this position.

Ethotrack can also detect the outline of the animal and the position of its head and use this information as criteria for entering or leaving a zone.

Some animal behaviors cannot be detected automatically by image analysis, but you can record them easily with a keystroke. Just replay the video (if necessary at reduced speed) and press the key when the behavior occurs.

Recorded behavior periods can be viewed in the "Current test" view and used in reports.

With Ethotrack, you always keep control of your experience. The detection rate is clearly indicated in the analysis results. If this rate is too low, you can always redo an analysis by modifying the detection parameters.
